2008 Olympics Using Social Media

On a daily basis, more and more corporations and public figures are understanding the significance of social media and connecting with their audiences. Sponsors, advertisers and athletes are no different in gearing up for this year’s Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Summer Olympics sponsor Lenovo is making the most of their connection with the worldwide event by creating an extensive social media campaign. By encouraging athletes to blog and provide pictures about their experience, fans can visit the Lenovo Olympic site to keep up to date with athletes as they’re preparing for and competing in the Olympic games!

Lenovo has also created videos and photos from Beijing, a map tracking the Olympic torch movement, and, of course, news about Lenovo and its involvement. This strategy will no doubt increase the amount of visitors to the company’s Web site as well as new supporters of the brand.
